چکیده

This paper re-examines the discrete choice methods and stated preference elicitation procedures that are commonly used in choice-based conjoint analysis. The aim is to clarify their domains of applicability and provide reliable techniques for data collection and analysis. An Investigation of Iranian EFL Teachers and Learners’ Preferences in the Selection of Different Types of Direct and Indirect Oral Corrective Feedback

This paper aimed at examining the Iranian EFL teachers and learners’ preferences for two types of direct oral corrective feedback, including explicit correction and metalinguistic clues, and two types of indirect oral corrective feedback, including recast and repetition. The participants included 39 teachers and 84 EFL learners, selected through purposive sampling. A scenario-based questionnair...

Enabling Environment Design via Active Indirect Elicitation

Many situations arise in which an interested party wishes to affect the decisions of an agent; e.g., a teacher that seeks to promote particular study habits, a Web 2.0 site that seeks to encourage users to contribute content, or an online retailer that seeks to encourage consumers to write reviews. In the problem of environment design, one assumes an interested party who is able to alter limite...

Knowledge Elicitation for Design Task Sequencing Knowledge

There are many types of knowledge involved in producing a design (the process of specifying a description of an artifact that satisfies a collection of constraints [Brown, 1992]). Of these, one of the most crucial is the design plan: the sequence of steps taken to create the design (or a portion of the design). A number of knowledge elicitation methods can be used to obtain this knowledge from ...

Requirements Elicitation with Indirect Knowledge Elicitation Techniques: Comparison of Three Methods

In this paper we describe a case study comp0Ting the effectiveness of three indirect knowledge elicitation techniques: repertory grid analysis, multi-dimensional scaling, and hierarchical clustering. These techniques are used in situations where it is difficult for the expert to articulate their knowledge in response to direct questions. The techniques were compared in terms of the number of at...

Requestive Speech Acts Realization Patterns: Observation from Persian

Without knowing the speech act functions, it would be difficult to make correct requests in a language. Studies in pragmalinguistics have shown that conventionally direct and indirect requestive patterns are perceived differently in different speech communities. This study investigates the perception of the requestive speech acts by Persian native speakers to determine the socially appropriate ...
